January Happenings

Compared to December, January always seems to be a little lack-luster.  No big holidays and no fun visitors.  BUT, we did manage to get out and about a little bit.  Here are some of the fun things we were up to in January 2012.

The Soccer Class!

In an attempt to burn some of Sam's excess energy, we put him in a soccer class for 3-4 year olds.  He loves it...he runs and runs and runs for almost the entire 50 minutes.

Sorry these turned out so dark, but they were so cute I had to post them anyway.  Stretching with his teacher/coach.

So cute.

Playing "red light/green light".  NOT his favorite game.  Red light means stop and put your foot on the ball (below), Yellow light means slowly dribble the ball, and Green light means run and shoot the ball into the goal.  He would much rather have it be "green light" the whole time.

The Snow Day!

We had a few teaser days with snowflakes falling, but none of it stuck to the ground.  Until this day.  A SNOW day.  Sam woke up early and watched it fall from our back windows.  He begged to go out and play but I made him put some clothes on first :)

Out in the snow in his new snow clothes we picked up at the Columbia employee store.  We bought a 4T (for several reasons), so it is a little big, but it still worked.

Austin's first real experience with snow.  Last year he was too little to do much.  This year he tried to crawl around with out much success.  He stared at his mittens and wondered why they were so wet and cold.

The obligatory snow man.  At this point, the snow had turned to rain so we had to work fast.  Notice something odd?  Sam's wearing my gloves because he soaked his through in about 5 minutes.  Note to self: look out for waterproof gloves this year.

The Finger.

Let the pointing stage begin!  "Austin, do you want a drink of milk?"  (A grunt and a point to the cupboard.)

The Pillow Bed.

Sam gets up early.  I mean, REALLY early sometimes.  So, once 7pm rolls around he is usually ready for bed.  If you don't put him to bed, he will do it himself.  In his "pillow bed".

The Dinosaur Bed.

Not to be confused with a pillow bed, the "Dinosaur Bed" makes its appearance every so often, usually during playtime.  This is where dinosaurs like this one sleep.  In his own words, he is a big dinosaur who eats fish and sleeps in his dinosaur bed.  Not a nest.  A bed.  Nests are for birds, he says.  What do I know?

The Staircase Conundrum?

The way I learned my little boy had figured out the stairs was by finding him like this.  Halfway up.  Now, if I  don't catch him in time, Austin will climb ALL the way up the stairs, crawl over to the hallway, pull himself to standing, and yell, "MOMMAMAMAMAMAMAMAMA"!!  At this point, I usually come sprinting around the corner and up the stairs to find my little boy laughing hysterically at me.

SO, being the cautious parent that I am, I put up our baby-gate at the bottom of the stairs.

Up to that point, no one has gotten hurt on the stairs.  WITHIN 24 HOURS of me putting up the gate, EVERYONE has gotten hurt on the stairs.  Gate comes down.

Gate has been re-stored in the garage until further notice.  Austin, it's time to learn how to go down the stairs  safely.

The Lego Airplane

Aunt Allison & Uncle Jon got the boys some awesome Duplos for Christmas.  Sam has already become a master builder.  His most common creation is an airplane.  But here, I will let him explain.  (Side note: Where did I get this boy?!?)

The End!  Happy January!
